JPMorgan Chase to Build the Dream of Homeownership Nationwide 14-Home Habitat Effort Underway in Columbus

Columbus, OHIO 9/11/15 — JPMorgan Chase & Co. employees will raise the walls on a new Habitat for Humanity home this Friday, September 11 on Columbus’ South Side. This year the company is supporting 14 builds across the country as part of their nearly $1 million commitment to Habitat for Humanity. Since 1998, JPMorgan Chase has provided more than $450,000 in donations and thousands of volunteer hours to Habitat for Humanity – MidOhio.

“We are so grateful to partner with JPMorgan Chase,” said E.J. Thomas, President & CEO of Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio. “Habitat relies on support from the community to help make affordable housing possible and we appreciate the generosity of JPMorgan Chase and its employees.”

For Habitat MidOhio partner family Jasia Rivers, the wall raising symbolizes renewal and the culmination of a life-long dream. Rivers will now be able to provide a stable living environment for her teenage son, mother, and newborn. Living conditions have posed many challenges for the Rivers family, who are looking forward to the stability and peace of mind that homeownership will bring.

“Becoming a homeowner has always been a dream of mine,” said Jasia Rivers. “I always thought it would be an unattainable goal…until now!”

The celebration will take place at 9:00 a.m. this Friday at 1850 South 5th Street in Columbus.

ABOUT HABITAT FOR HUMANITY-MIDOHIO
“Build Your Dream”
Habitat for Humanity-MidOhio works throughout central Ohio and has helped over 340 families’ transition out of substandard housing, since 1987.

Habitat MidOhio is one of the only housing agencies in the community targeting families who earn 30-60% of median income. Habitat MidOhio partner families are chosen after a careful review process during which Habitat assesses their need for housing; their ability to repay a zero-interest, no-profit mortgage and their willingness to partner with Habitat through sweat equity. All partner families are first-time homebuyers who earn 30-60% of the median income for the county and currently live in substandard housing. Every partner family must perform a minimum of 200-250 hours of sweat equity, which includes working on their own house and those of other Habitat families, attending homeownership classes and providing Habitat program support. Every family also assumes a no-interest, no-profit mortgage with payments based on family income. Because HFH-MidOhio holds and services these mortgages, Habitat has a long-term relationship with the homeowners and the communities in which they live.
